Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist by preparing and filling physician orders, ensuring correct medications and labeling before pharmacist verification
• Prepare sterile products including IVs, IVPBs, syringes and TPNs using strict sterile technique and SOPs
• Maintain and stock automated dispensing machines and pharmacy shelves, including daily narcotic pulls and expiration checks
• Pre-pack unit-dose medications and perform accurate medication dispensing and labeling
• Deliver completed drug orders to patient care areas and support floor staff with medication needs
• Maintain clean, safe pharmacy environments and follow all infection control and PPE procedures
• Maintain temperature logs, manage IV inventory and accept/verify incoming medication shipments in compliance with DSCSA
• Perform telephone triage for pharmacy calls and escalate to pharmacists per departmental guidelines
• Support emergency readiness by maintaining crash cart trays and emergency medication boxes
• Assist with pharmacy special projects and perform competency assessments as required

Qualifications

• Valid certificate of registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician issued by the Board of Pharmacy, State of Hawaii (required)
• Minimum two (2) years of pharmacy experience in a pharmacy setting (community, hospital, or other medical institutions)
• Hands-on experience with sterile compounding, IV preparation, TPN preparation, and unit-dose packaging
• Familiarity with automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis) and experience supporting Pyxis troubleshooting
• Knowledge of narcotic handling procedures, DSCSA requirements, and medication inventory control
• Able to work assigned shifts including weekends, holidays, and rotating schedules as needed
• Commitment to confidentiality, safety, and adherence to pharmacy SOPs

Education

• Registered Pharmacy Technician certificate/registration from the Board of Pharmacy, State of Hawaii (required)

• Sterile compounding and aseptic technique
• IV preparation, IVPB, syringes and TPN formulation
• Unit-dose packaging, medication labeling and dispensing accuracy
• Inventory management and automated dispensing systems (Pyxis)
• Narcotic control and expiry management
• Temperature log maintenance for refrigerators and storage areas
• Telephone triage and clear communication with clinical teams
• Basic pharmacy software troubleshooting and ability to assist nursing staff
