Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered care for a diverse Med Surg/Tele population, including orthopedic trauma, post-surgical, and acute medical patients
• Monitor cardiac telemetry and respond promptly to changes in patient status
• Administer and titrate IV medications including Heparin, Lidocaine, and Ketamine, and manage PCA pumps
• Coordinate admissions, discharges, and daily patient flow while maintaining a 1:5-6 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Collaborate with a strong interdisciplinary team including charge nurses, patient care techs, and telemetry specialists
• Conduct hourly rounding to ensure patient safety, comfort, and timely responsiveness
• Serve patients from diverse cultures with respect and cultural awareness

Qualifications

• Active RN license valid in Nebraska or a compact state at the time of submission
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Med Surg/Tele or Ortho Trauma nursing
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required; ACLS preferred
• Must pass an open-book skills exam with 90% during orientation
• Valid driver's license to verify 50-mile radius requirement
• Willingness to float to other med surg units as needed
• Compliance with facility fingernail policy (no artificial nails in patient care areas)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring skills
• Proficiency in EPIC electronic health record
• Medication titration and PCA pump management
• Orthopedic trauma and post-operative nursing care
• Time management and the ability to handle high patient turnover
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Cultural competence when caring for diverse patient populations
