Roles & Responsibilities

• Audit medical records to ensure accurate CPT coding assignments and validate ICD-10 diagnoses against documentation.
• Compile clear audit reports with analysis of findings and actionable recommendations to improve coding accuracy.
• Maintain and manage the audit log for BHMG and ensure timely completion of required yearly provider audits.
• Communicate findings to providers and staff — provide educational feedback to improve documentation and coding practices.
• Design and implement documentation support tools in collaboration with the Revenue Cycle Manager to strengthen clinical documentation.
• Train new revenue cycle team members on coding and documentation guidelines and coach existing staff as needed.
• Support BHMG coding and billing staff with coding questions and remedial coding activities when warranted.
• Assist the Assistant/Revenue Cycle Manager with evaluations of coding activities and performance reviews of revenue cycle personnel.
• Consistently meet established productivity targets for record audits and contribute to continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required — no exceptions
• Associate Degree in a related field required (Bachelor's preferred)
• Minimum five (5) years of combined inpatient and outpatient coding and auditing experience
• Proven professional (physician) coding experience in a medical office–based setting
• Experience interacting with physicians and delivering provider education and feedback
• Familiarity with multi-specialty coding environments is preferred
• Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and ability to meet productivity expectations

Education

• Associate Degree in a related field (required)
• Bachelor's Degree in a related field (preferred)

• CPT coding and CPT code validation
• ICD-10 diagnosis coding
• Medical record auditing and audit report preparation
• Clinical documentation improvement and provider education
• Coding guidelines and coding compliance
• Revenue cycle support and charge entry awareness
• Experience with inpatient and outpatient physician coding
• Ability to design documentation tools and training materials
