Roles & Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe, sterile, and efficient operating room environment by performing expert scrub techniques and instrument handling
• Prepare and complete case carts per preference cards and proactively procure necessary instruments and supplies
• Communicate clearly with surgeons, RNs, sterile processing, and materials management to coordinate instruments for scheduled and unscheduled cases
• Review daily surgical schedules with charge nurse and SPD to identify potential turnover delays and scheduling issues
• Manage core phone and communications for the department, delegating duties and coordinating breaks and lunches
• Serve as a resource for SPD and Surgical Services on supply and instrumentation needs
• Verify equipment functionality and assist in implementing tools and technologies that enhance patient safety during procedures

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent Military Surgical Technologist Program
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required
• American Heart Association BLS certification required
• Strong communication skills and experience coordinating with sterile processing and materials management

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (or military equivalent)

• Scrub technique and sterile technique
• Surgical instrumentation and instrument handling
• Operating Room (OR) procedures and operating room safety
• Preference card review and preference card management
• Sterile processing collaboration and SPD workflow
• Materials management, inventory and procurement coordination
• Human anatomy and common surgical procedures
• Patient safety best practices and clear team communication
