Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess pediatric patients pre-operatively and ensure they are ready and safe for procedures
• Prepare the pre-op environment and necessary equipment to maintain smooth patient flow
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with children and families, explaining procedures and alleviating concerns
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to coordinate care
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately in the medical record
• Advocate for patient safety and adhere to infection control and procedural protocols
• Assist with triage and prioritization of pre-op cases to support efficient operating schedules

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri (MO) or compact RN eligible
• Experience caring for pediatric patients—pre-op or ambulatory surgery experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Strong clinical assessment and pediatric communication skills
• Ability to pass facility background check and drug screening
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced surgical/pre-op environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication
• Pre-operative preparation and patient education
• Medication administration and IV starts for pediatric patients
• Familiarity with perioperative workflows and safety protocols
• Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation skills
• Teamwork, clinical judgement, and the ability to prioritize under pressure
