Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, family-centered postoperative care for pediatric patients in the PACU
• Assess and monitor vital signs, airway status, pain levels, and recovery from anesthesia
• Administer medications and IV therapy safely and document treatments accurately
• Communicate clearly with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and families during recovery
• Identify changes in patient condition quickly and escalate concerns appropriately
• Ensure a safe, calm environment for children and their caregivers during immediate recovery
• Assist with patient transfers and handoffs while maintaining professional documentation
• Participate in orientation and unit-based training to maintain competency in pediatric PACU care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) credential
• Experience or strong interest in PACU and pediatric nursing (Pediatrics, PACU listed as core skills)
• Current BLS certification (and PALS recommended for pediatric practice)
• Comfortable delivering compassionate care to children and supporting families
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a perioperative team
• Ability to complete required orientation prior to clinical assignment

Education

• Registered Nurse (RN) — active RN credential required

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in postoperative assessment and monitoring in a PACU setting
• Knowledge of pediatric physiology, pain management, and family-centered care
• Familiarity with IV medication administration and documentation best practices
• Ability to interpret vital signs and recognize early signs of respiratory or hemodynamic compromise
• Competence with electronic health record documentation and handoff communication
• Teamwork, situational awareness, and patient safety focus in a fast-paced environment
