Roles & Responsibilities

Monitor pediatric patients in the post-anesthesia care unit and ensure safe recovery
Assess airway, breathing and circulation and intervene promptly when needed
Administer medications and pain management interventions per orders
Provide compassionate, family-centered education and handoffs to caregivers
Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams and unit staff to coordinate care
Document patient status and interventions accurately in the medical record
Maintain a safe, calming environment for children and families during recovery

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (Missouri license or compact RN where applicable)
Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
Experience or strong interest in PACU and pediatric patient care
Comfortable with IV medications, airway management and pediatric assessment
Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team

Education

Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred where available.

Knowledge & Skills

Post-anesthesia care principles and pediatric recovery assessment
Airway and respiratory management for children
Medication administration and titration in the PACU setting
Pain management techniques for postoperative pediatric patients
Accurate charting and handoff communication
Calm, reassuring approach with children and families
