Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality post-anesthesia care to patients in the PACU, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia
• Continuously assess and monitor patient status, intervening early for changes in condition
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to ensure smooth patient transitions
• Administer medications safely, manage IVs, and document care accurately in the medical record
• Educate patients and families about recovery expectations and discharge instructions with compassion
• Act promptly in emergency situations, supporting resuscitation and transfer when needed
• Maintain a safe, efficient, and patient-centered recovery area that supports positive outcomes

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Virginia or compact state (required)
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience, preferably in PACU or post-operative care
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or as required by facility
• Demonstrated ability to assess airways, manage pain control, and care for post-anesthesia patients
• Strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong post-anesthesia assessment and monitoring skills
• IV therapy, medication administration, and pain management
• Airway management and basic resuscitation knowledge
• Familiarity with perioperative workflows and PACU best practices
• Comfortable with electronic medical records and accurate documentation
• Excellent patient and family education and interpersonal skills
