Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead and direct all aspects of the Health Information Management department to ensure smooth, accurate, and timely record processing
• Manage indexing, abstracting, filing, storage, transcription, retrieval and release of information with an emphasis on accuracy and compliance
• Oversee acute and ambulatory coding quality and timeliness, driving coding accuracy and continuous improvement
• Develop, implement and enforce HIM policies and procedures to ensure regulatory and organizational compliance (including HIPAA)
• Maintain and manage the trauma registry and other key clinical data systems
• Coordinate the physician suspension process related to documentation and coding issues, acting as the departmental liaison to clinical leadership
• Communicate regularly with health center leadership and staff to align HIM operations with clinical and organizational goals
• Supervise, mentor and develop HIM staff to build a high-performing, accountable team

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Science or related field (required) — or a documented plan to complete the degree
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred (highly preferred)
• Minimum five years of management/supervisory experience (required)
• Minimum five years of medical coding experience (required) including acute and ambulatory coding
• Experience with HIPAA regulations preferred
• Ability to work onsite full time in Salina, Kansas; meets Kansas state license requirements

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Science or related field (required) — candidates nearing completion may be considered with a documented plan

• Leadership and supervisory skills with a focus on team development and accountability
• Health information management systems and records retention best practices
• Medical coding (acute and ambulatory) and coding accuracy processes
• Indexing, abstracting and trauma registry management
• Release of information processes and HIPAA compliance
• Policy development, documentation best practices and quality improvement
• Transcription oversight and record retrieval workflows
• Strong communication skills for interaction with clinical leadership and multidisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with physician suspension processes and corrective actions
