Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver comprehensive nursing care for long-term care residents based on assessments and individualized care plans
- Perform nursing admissions, complete thorough assessments, interpret clinical data, and document findings in the EHR
- Administer medications and therapeutics accurately while monitoring residents for responses and side effects
- Provide leadership at the bedside by delegating and supervising CNAs, LPNs, and ward staff during the shift
- Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies, making sound clinical judgments independently as needed
- Educate residents and families about conditions, treatments, and care plans to support recovery and quality of life
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate resident-focused care
- Participate in unit quality improvement, attend staff meetings, complete required competencies, and support peer development
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or other U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start; agency staff must hold active Alaska license)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency (to be completed within 3 months of hire and maintained per policy)
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred, ideally in long-term care or similar settings
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform required physical tasks
- Strong communication, delegation, and leadership skills; willingness to act as charge RN when needed
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing: BSN, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma accepted
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in nursing assessment, care planning, documentation, and EHR charting
- Knowledge of infection control practices and medication administration
- Familiarity with pharmaceuticals, side effects, and monitoring needs
- Comfort using and monitoring basic and specialized medical equipment, including AEDs
- Ability to recognize and respond to acute changes in resident condition
- Skilled in patient and family teaching with an emphasis on compassionate communication
- Capacity to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and mentor less experienced staff
- Competence in mandatory state reporting and regulatory requirements
