Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, compassionate labor and delivery nursing care to birthing patients
• Perform advanced fetal monitoring and interpret tracings using AWHONN AFM standards
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned — coordinate care, lead the team, and prioritize patient safety
• Assist in cesarean sections and care for newborns during and after delivery alongside RT and anesthesia
• Respond to neonatal resuscitation events (NRP) and lead stabilization until transfer if needed
• Accurately document patient care and interventions in Cerner EMR
• Float to MedSurg as needed to support patient flow and unit needs, delivering safe, competent care

Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing (state licensure required)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (Labor & Delivery preferred)
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), NRP, ACLS, AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
• COVID vaccination required per hospital policy
• Demonstrated ability to function as a charge nurse and lead small teams
• Comfortable working independently — role may be sole L&D nurse on site with on-call backup

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN not required (BSN: No) — associate degree or diploma acceptable

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in Cerner electronic medical record charting
• Strong fetal monitoring interpretation and labor management skills
• Neonatal resuscitation competency and experience working with RT in the delivery setting
• C-section assistance experience and post-operative newborn care
• Ability to float to MedSurg and perform related tasking when unit census requires
• Excellent communication, prioritization, and leadership skills
