Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert labor and delivery nursing care for mothers during labor and delivery
• Deliver newborn nursery and couplet care — ensuring both mom and baby thrive together
• Perform intermediate/advanced fetal monitoring and interpret findings to guide care
• Step into charge nurse duties when assigned, coordinating unit flow and supporting colleagues
• Float to assist other departments as needed, bringing your L&D expertise to where it helps most
• Document care accurately and communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team
• Educate and support patients and families through the childbirth and immediate postpartum experience

Qualifications

• Current Hawaii RN license — REQUIRED
• Proven Labor & Delivery RN experience (Labor & Delivery and Nursery with couplet care)
• Competency in intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring
• Comfort working 12-hour night shifts and handling a rural community hospital volume (~45-50 deliveries/month)
• Willingness to perform charge nurse duties when assigned and to float to support other units

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong maternal-newborn clinical assessment and critical thinking
• Skilled in fetal monitoring interpretation (intermediate/advanced)
• Couplet care expertise — simultaneous care of mother and baby
• Ability to manage deliveries, neonatal transition, and early postpartum needs
• Clear communication, teamwork, and leadership when acting as charge nurse
