Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality critical care to ICU patients, including ventilated and post-CABG patients
• Continuously monitor and interpret hemodynamic data and respond with appropriate interventions
• Manage ventilators and respiratory therapies in collaboration with respiratory therapists
• Perform bedside shift reports and maintain clear, professional handoffs to ensure continuity of care
• Collaborate with intensivists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary teams for complex cardiac and transplant cases
• Document patient care accurately in the Meditech system and maintain up-to-date whiteboard communication
• Support unit protocols for ECMO, heart transplant, and other high-acuity procedures when applicable
• Educate patients and families about care plans and recovery expectations with empathy and clarity

Qualifications

• Active Texas RN license required (temporary licenses will not be accepted)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; current CPR certification
• Minimum 2+ years of ICU critical care experience required, CVICU experience preferred
• Experienced with ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and post-CABG care
• Comfortable working in a high-acuity unit with ECMO and heart transplant cases
• Meditech experience preferred
• Strong teamwork, communication, and bedside reporting skills — rudeness is not tolerated

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of critical care nursing and cardiac postoperative management
• Skilled in ventilator management and respiratory therapy collaboration
• Proficient in hemodynamic monitoring and titration of vasoactive medications
• Familiarity with ECMO basics and care of transplant patients
• Experience with electronic documentation systems, ideally Meditech
• Ability to prioritize, triage, and act decisively in high-stress situations
• Excellent interpersonal skills for patient/family education and multidisciplinary teamwork
