Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity cardiac and postoperative critical care for CTICU/CVICU patients with skill and confidence
• Continuously monitor and interpret telemetry and dysrhythmias to rapidly escalate care when needed
• Perform and maintain sterile technique for procedures including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• Manage advanced support devices and therapies (IABP, CRRT, ECMO candidates, Swan-Ganz when applicable)
• Collaborate with intensivists, RT, pharmacy and multidisciplinary team for complex transplant and cardiac surgery patients
• Lead bedside procedures and assist with bronchoscopies, chest tubes and other invasive interventions
• Float to other ICUs and telemetry units as needed while maintaining safe patient ratios and standards
• Act as a reliable team member during high census times, supporting patient safety and unit throughput

Qualifications

• Current RN license (Arizona or compact RN eligible) required
• BLS and ACLS required prior to start
• CCRN strongly preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience; CVICU or cardiac patient experience highly desired
• Strong IV skills; competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes required
• Experience with telemetry (Phillips) and Cerner charting preferred
• Must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (two attempts allowed)
• Successful completion of Day 1 SIMs Lab (pass/fail) for Foley and central line care is mandatory
• Travel team requirements: own reliable vehicle, natural hair color, no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit testing
• Willingness to float to other units and to Westgate campus when requested

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiac critical care, postoperative cardiac surgery recovery and transplant patient management
• Dysrhythmia recognition and advanced telemetry interpretation
• Central line, hemodynamic monitoring and invasive device management (Swan-Ganz, IABP)
• CRRT and familiarity with renal replacement therapies
• ECMO awareness and assistive bedside care
• Strong sterile technique and procedural competence
• Effective interdisciplinary communication and escalation with intensivists and support services
• Electronic medical record proficiency (Cerner) and bedside documentation
