Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver nursing care for adults with behavioral health diagnoses in a 12-bed unit
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
• Use EMR (Meditech) to document care, track progress and communicate with the team
• Participate in patient and family teaching to support recovery and self-care
• Follow crisis prevention protocols (NCI) and provide compassionate de-escalation when needed
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned, leading and supporting the unit team
• Collaborate within a team model to maintain appropriate nurse-to-patient care
• Maintain professional attire and unit standards while promoting a therapeutic environment

Qualifications

• Active State of Hawaii Registered Nurse (RN) license required by start of assignment
• Minimum 2 years of experience in behavioral health nursing
• BLS certification required
• NCI or equivalent crisis prevention/de-escalation training required
• Experience with medication administration and behavioral health care plans
• Proficiency with EMR systems, specifically Meditech
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays
• Charge nurse experience preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Behavioral health assessment and crisis intervention skills
• Strong medication administration knowledge and safe practice
• Familiarity with EMR documentation workflows (Meditech preferred)
• Effective patient and family teaching techniques
• Team-based care and mentoring skills
• Ability to remain calm and decisive during crises
• Cultural sensitivity and respectful communication with diverse patient populations
