Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assist oral surgeons during wisdom tooth extractions and other surgical procedures, ensuring everything runs smoothly
  • Monitor vital signs, including blood pressure and pulse oximetry, to keep patients safe and comfortable
  • Administer and monitor nitrous oxide and IV sedation under supervision, providing calm reassurance throughout
  • Take high-quality panoramic X-rays to help guide surgical planning and diagnosis
  • Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and operatory rooms, maintaining a clean and safe environment
  • Provide compassionate patient care before, during, and after surgery, addressing questions and concerns

Qualifications

  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or equivalent experience in oral surgery
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Hands-on experience with vital signs monitoring and patient assessment
  • Proficiency with nitrous oxide and IV sedation monitoring
  • Skilled in taking panoramic X-rays with proper radiation safety practices
  • Experience assisting with wisdom tooth removal and oral surgical procedures
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, reassuring bedside manner

Knowledge & Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of oral surgery instruments and sterile techniques
  • Ability to multitask and anticipate the needs of the oral surgeon
  • Understanding of sedation protocols and patient monitoring equipment
  • Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) systems
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for working with anxious patients
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to patient safety
