Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect and accurately document patient information and maintain organized patient charts
• Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries
• Perform specimen collection and Point of Care Testing (POCT) following protocol for labeling and transport
• Provide immunizations and administer injections as ordered by the provider
• Operate and assist with medical equipment such as blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeters, EKG machines, cardiac monitors, and manual defibrillators when competent
• Support clinic flow by transporting patients and ensuring timely follow-up for overdue immunizations and preventive care
• Assist clinic nursing staff and provide cross-coverage to support efficient patient throughput
• Observe and report changes in patient condition and document appropriately in the EMR

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR EMT III required
• Current Alaska certification OR current Alaska Paramedic certification OR Nursing degree from an accredited institution may substitute for above
• Experience in a healthcare setting preferred
• Ability to administer immunizations and injections as ordered
• Competence or willingness to be trained on EMR systems and medical devices
• Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Nursing degree accepted as an alternative credential

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient care and vital signs measurement across age groups
• Specimen collection and Point of Care Testing (POCT)
• Immunization protocols and administration
• EMR documentation and patient charting
• Clinic procedures and flow management
• Radiology assistance per protocol when competencies are met
• Operation of EKG machines, cardiac monitors, and manual defibrillators
• Ability to recognize and respond to emergency situations
