Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to long-term care residents while respecting patient rights and dignity
• Conduct thorough patient assessments and document findings accurately
• Work within scope of practice to implement care plans and report changes in patient condition
• Administer medications, perform IV-related tasks (with IV certification), and monitor vital signs including pulse oximetry
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate resident care
• Use facility medical equipment and electronic tools such as Dynamapp and Datascope to support patient care
• Educate residents and families on care plans and promote culturally competent communication
• Maintain required competencies, CPR/BCLS certification, and participate in unit committees as needed

Qualifications

• Current LPN license in good standing with the State of Alaska
• Current CPR/BCLS certification required
• IV certification course completed or willingness to complete
• New graduates accepted; 1 year hospital or long-term care experience preferred
• Ability to pass and maintain position-specific competencies
• Strong communication skills and cultural competency for working with diverse populations

Education

• Graduate of an LPN/LVN nursing program

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and nursing care fundamentals
• Understanding and application of scope of practice and patient rights
• Experience with monitoring tools: pulse oximetry and thermometers
• Familiarity with medical devices and platforms such as Dynamapp and Datascope
• Comfort using office machines (multi-line phone, computer, fax) and electronic documentation
• Mathematical skills for medication calculations and charting
• Reasoning and problem solving for practical, real-time clinical challenges
• Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
