Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies (Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler, Transesophageal, exercise stress and pharmacological echocardiography) accurately and efficiently.
• Conduct other cardiac diagnostic studies including EKG, Holter preparation/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress testing.
• Operate and maintain cardiac diagnostic equipment — from echocardiographs to Holter monitors and cardiac stress systems — to deliver the best possible diagnostic data.
• Use hospital information systems for scheduling, processing, and correct charging of studies, ensuring accurate clinical and billing documentation.
• Implement infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and equipment disinfection to keep patients and staff safe.
• Provide age-specific care across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric patients, and act as a knowledgeable resource to physicians and nursing staff.
• Precept and provide clinical guidance to students from contracted colleges and universities as part of educational agreements.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities, always keeping patient care and diagnostic quality front and center.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or 2 years of hands-on echocardiography experience required
• Preferred: Certificate in Cardiovascular Sonography
• Preferred: Extensive hospital-based experience and experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Cardiovascular Sonography certificate (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Transthoracic echocardiography (2-D, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler)
• Transesophageal echocardiography and stress echo (exercise and pharmacological)
• EKG, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing
• Patient-centered care and age-specific assessment (including neonatal and pediatric)
• Infection control, aseptic technique, and equipment disinfection
• Use of hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and charging
• Operation and troubleshooting of cardiac diagnostic equipment
• Preceptorship and clinical teaching abilities
