Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room and sterile field for cardiovascular procedures including open heart surgeries (CABG, valve replacements, aneurysms)
• Serve as first scrub for CVOR cases, assisting surgeons with instrumentation and supplies
• Cross-train to general OR specialties when CV volumes are low, expanding your skills
• Participate in call rotations for weeknights and weekends to cover emergency surgeries
• Float to other units as a 1:1 patient sitter to supplement hours during low case volume
• Assist with robotic surgeries (da Vinci), ECMO, Impella 5.5, and Stryker tower cases
• Collaborate with a close-knit team in a family atmosphere focused on patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Current BLS certification required
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA or NCCT required
• North Dakota UAP (Unlicensed Assistive Personnel) certification required
• Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience with open heart, CABG, and valve procedures
• Must be able to first scrub independently for cardiovascular cases
• Willingness to cross-train to general OR and float to other units as needed
• Ability to respond to call within 15 minutes

Knowledge & Skills

• Expert knowledge of CVOR sterile technique and instrumentation
• Proficiency in open heart surgery including CABG, valve repair/replacement, and aneurysm procedures
• Experience with thoracic surgeries (VATS, thoracotomies) and vascular cases (AAA, carotids)
• Familiarity with robotic-assisted surgery (da Vinci), ECMO, and Impella devices
• Competency in EPIC charting system
• Strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced OR environment
