Roles & Responsibilities

Audit medical records to validate ICD-10 and CPT code accuracy and ensure documentation supports coding decisions.
Compile clear, actionable audit reports with analysis of findings and trends to improve coding quality.
Maintain the audit lodge and ensure provider records are reviewed on the established cycle.
Communicate findings to physicians and midlevel providers—provide education and feedback to improve documentation.
Design and implement tools and education plans with the Revenue Cycle Manager to strengthen clinical documentation.
Train new revenue cycle team members on coding and documentation guidelines and best practices.
Perform coding for professional claims as needed and support BHMG coding and billing staff with coding questions.
Assist the Revenue Cycle Manager with evaluation of coding activities and performance reviews as requested.

Qualifications

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) — required (must have CPC).
Associate Degree in a related field required; Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
Minimum five (5) years' experience in inpatient/outpatient coding and auditing — hands-on auditing experience required.
Proven professional/physician coding experience in office-based settings; experience coding multiple specialties preferred.
Strong experience interacting with providers to deliver feedback and education.
Ability to work fully onsite in Dover, DE and collaborate directly with clinical and revenue cycle teams.

Education

Associate Degree in a related field (required)
Bachelor's Degree in a related field (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

ICD-10 and CPT coding expertise
Medical record auditing and audit lodge maintenance
Clinical documentation improvement (CDI) principles
Professional/physician coding for inpatient and outpatient encounters
Provider education and effective provider communication
Revenue cycle awareness, charge entry, and coding support workflows
Multi-specialty group practice coding experience
