Location: Bismarck, North Dakota

End Date: 09-14-2026

Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM; also includes 8-hour options 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM; self-scheduling with every other weekend and holiday

Hours per Week: 36

Candidate Pay Rate: $58 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate, hands-on care to adolescents and adults on a locked psychiatric unit
Build meaningful connections while assisting with 15-minute safety rounds and therapeutic interventions
Collaborate with mental health techs, OT, and social work to deliver holistic patient support
Respond calmly to behavioral health needs using strong de-escalation and communication skills
Float throughout the hospital as helping hands or for 1:1 observation when needed
Support patients experiencing depression, anxiety, substance use, psychosis, bipolar disorder, and more

Qualifications

Active RN license in North Dakota or compact license
BLS certification required; CPI preferred
Acute or inpatient psychiatric experience, state hospital experience a plus
Strong de-escalation and communication skills
Adolescent experience preferred but not required
Open to first-time travelers

Knowledge & Skills

Understanding of common behavioral health diagnoses including depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, and substance use disorders
Ability to remain patient and calm under pressure
Comfort working on a locked unit with emergency response protocols
Willingness to assist with patient care tasks beyond the nurses station
