Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, expert nursing care to expectant mothers during labor, delivery, and postpartum
• Monitor maternal and fetal vital signs, including fetal heart rate tracings, and intervene as needed
• Assist obstetricians and midwives with deliveries, including cesarean sections and vaginal births
• Educate new parents on newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery
• Administer medications and IV therapies per physician orders and protocols
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized birth plans
• Respond quickly to obstetric emergencies and provide life-saving interventions when necessary
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record

Qualifications

• Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or a compact state
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from AHA or equivalent
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days
• Minimum of 1 year of Labor & Delivery experience preferred
• Strong fetal monitoring interpretation skills and familiarity with electronic fetal monitoring
• Current ACLS certification preferred for high-risk deliveries

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of obstetric and neonatal nursing standards
• Skilled in fetal heart monitoring and interpretation
• Excellent communication and patient education abilities
• Strong critical thinking and rapid decision-making skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
• Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and documentation
• Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care
• Ability to remain calm and effective during emergencies
