Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality Med/Surg nursing care for surgical specialty patients
• Manage patient assignments on nights, safely caring for up to 8 patients when needed
• Perform IV insertion and manage PICC/central lines and other vascular access
• Float between Med/Surg and the sister Ortho unit as needed to support patient flow
• Participate in bedside shift report and multidisciplinary care team rounds
• Support discharge planning and help patients transition home smoothly
• Administer IV antibiotics, pain control medications, anticoagulants, and manage PCA therapy
• Operate and troubleshoot common unit equipment such as Alaris IV pumps, CADD PCA, Pyxis, and lift systems
• Provide wound management and use wound VAC systems when indicated
• Document care accurately and communicate clearly with the care team

Qualifications

• Previous travel nursing experience is required
• Most recent three assignments must be acute care Med/Surg in medium to large organizations
• Demonstrated ability to manage up to 8 patients on night shift (typical ratio nights 1:6, may go up to 1:8)
• Skilled in IV insertion and PICC/central line management
• Comfortable floating between Med/Surg and Ortho units and handling a variety of surgical cases
• Experience with bedside shift report and participating in care team rounds

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong Med/Surg nursing skills with surgical specialty experience
• Familiarity with robotic and general surgical procedures and post-op care
• IV therapy, vascular device access and central/PICC line care
• Wound management including use of wound VAC systems
• Experience with Alaris IV pumps, CADD PCA, Pyxis, and ceiling/EVA lifts
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients safely on night shift
• Effective communication during bedside reports and multidisciplinary rounds
