Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for nuclear medicine studies, ensuring comfort, safety, and clear instructions
- Perform high-quality diagnostic nuclear medicine scans following established protocols
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and accurately per policy
- Monitor and maintain imaging equipment; troubleshoot and report issues promptly
- Ensure the work area is clean, organized, and stocked for efficient patient care
- Participate in teaching and instructional activities to support learners and staff development
- Communicate findings and patient considerations clearly with radiologists and physicians
- Provide patient care across the lifespan, adapting to developmental and clinical needs
Qualifications
- Current Hawaiʻi license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (required)
- Current BLS/HCP certification (required)
- One (1) year of nuclear medicine experience preferred (new grads welcome)
- Demonstrated knowledge of radiopharmaceutical administration and radiation safety
- Strong communication skills and critical thinking to collaborate with physicians and the care team
- Ability to work independently in a single-tech rural setting while tapping system resources
Knowledge & Skills
- Nuclear medicine physics and diagnostic imaging principles
- Radiopharmaceutical administration and radiation safety protocols
- Operation of dose calibrators, gamma cameras, well counters, and thyroid uptake probes
- Use of survey meters and radiation monitoring devices
- Equipment troubleshooting and everyday maintenance
- Patient preparation and education for nuclear medicine studies
- Clear communication with radiologists, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
- Critical thinking, independent practice, and teaching/instructional skills
- Comfort working in a rural healthcare setting and connecting with community patients
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with imaging documentation systems
