Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM; rotating schedule with 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks (self-scheduling with schedulers who may rebalance the schedule); holidays covered per unit rotation; orientation includes 2 shifts on the floor

Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality critical care across SICU, MICU, and Trauma ICU to seriously ill adults
• Manage ventilators and advanced respiratory support (Servo I, Jet, Oscillator) and work closely with RTs
• Titrate drips and vasoactive medications safely and per protocol
• Perform and document sterile procedures including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• Interpret cardiac/telemetry strips and respond to dysrhythmias promptly
• Provide bedside care for complex cases including transplant recovery and multi-system trauma
• Participate in and complete pass/fail SIMs lab skills and unit-specific competency checks
• Float among ICU areas and to MedSurg/Tele units as needed while collaborating with the multidisciplinary team

Qualifications

• Active RN license (able to submit and/or transfer license as needed)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience required
• Required experience in a 600+ bed teaching facility
• Must have Level 1 trauma experience
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications and NIHSS certification required
• Proven ability to read and interpret cardiac/telemetry strips and pass dysrhythmia exam (2 attempts allowed)
• Competence in sterile technique; must pass SIMs lab for Foley insertion and central line dressing changes
• Experience with ventilator management and titration of drips
• Willingness to float across ICU pods and to other campus locations when needed
• Travel requirements: own vehicle for travel teams; meet facility appearance/fit-test requirements (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit test)

Education

• BSN not required
• Active RN license in good standing required

Knowledge & Skills

• ICU nursing and critical care fundamentals
• Dysrhythmia recognition and advanced cardiac monitoring
• Ventilator management (Servo I, Jet, Oscillator) and respiratory support
• Titration of vasoactive drips and infusion management
• Sterile technique, Foley catheter insertion, and central line care
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic charting system
• Experience with bronchoscopy, tracheostomy care, and dialysis catheter care
• Care for transplant patients (lung, liver, kidney) and trauma management
