Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide expert post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients as they recover from surgery and procedures
  • Monitor vital signs, airway patency, and level of consciousness to ensure a safe recovery
  • Administer medications and manage pain according to physician orders
  • Assess patients for complications and intervene promptly when needed
  • Educate and support families with clear communication about their child's recovery
  • Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, family-centered care

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted RN license in Massachusetts (or compact license where applicable)
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association) required
  • PALS certification required (or willingness to obtain)
  • Previous PACU, critical care, or pediatric nursing experience strongly preferred
  • Graduates from an accredited nursing program welcome to apply
  • Must be comfortable making quick decisions in a fast-paced environment

Knowledge & Skills

  • Solid understanding of pediatric anatomy, physiology, and common post-operative complications
  • Confidence in airway management, oxygen titration, and monitoring equipment
  • Strong IV insertion and medication administration skills
  • Excellent communication and family-teaching abilities
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and documentation standards
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during emergencies
