Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients as they recover from surgery and procedures
- Monitor vital signs, airway patency, and level of consciousness to ensure a safe recovery
- Administer medications and manage pain according to physician orders
- Assess patients for complications and intervene promptly when needed
- Educate and support families with clear communication about their child's recovery
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, family-centered care
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted RN license in Massachusetts (or compact license where applicable)
- BLS certification (American Heart Association) required
- PALS certification required (or willingness to obtain)
- Previous PACU, critical care, or pediatric nursing experience strongly preferred
- Graduates from an accredited nursing program welcome to apply
- Must be comfortable making quick decisions in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid understanding of pediatric anatomy, physiology, and common post-operative complications
- Confidence in airway management, oxygen titration, and monitoring equipment
- Strong IV insertion and medication administration skills
- Excellent communication and family-teaching abilities
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and documentation standards
- Ability to stay calm and focused during emergencies
