Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, family-centered nursing care to neonates in a Level III NICU following AWHONN/NANN guidelines
• Manage ventilators and central lines safely and effectively for critically ill newborns
• Perform thorough assessments, monitor multi-system support needs, and adjust care plans accordingly
• Serve as a baby nurse/transition nurse on Mother-Baby or L&D when floating is required
• Document care accurately and efficiently using MEDITECH charting systems
• Collaborate with neonatology, OB hospitalists, maternal-fetal medicine and multi-disciplinary teams to optimize outcomes
• Participate in neonatal transport processes as needed and maintain readiness for urgent transfers

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (able to practice in Nebraska)
• Minimum 3 years of NICU experience (Level III preferred)
• Certifications required: BLS and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Experienced with ventilator management and central line care in neonates
• Comfortable floating to Mother-Baby and L&D; experience with newborn transition care
• Strong critical thinking, communication, multitasking skills, and ability to work independently
• Driver's license required at submission (used to verify radius rule)
• Must pass an orientation skills exam (open-book) with a 90% score to continue assignment
• Not eligible if currently full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity)

Education

• Active RN license in Nebraska (required)
• BSN preferred but not required
• Completion of unit orientation (12 hours) and successful skills exam

Knowledge & Skills

• Neonatal assessment and care across continuous, intermediate and intensive levels
• Ventilator and respiratory support management for neonates
• Central line insertion care and maintenance
• Neonatal resuscitation and emergency response (NRP protocols)
• MEDITECH electronic charting and documentation
• Familiarity with AWHONN and NANN clinical guidelines
• Strong interdisciplinary communication and family-centered care practices
