Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with professionalism and empathy
• Conduct thorough interview-based evaluations to capture Veterans’ medical histories and concerns
• Perform focused physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing
• Document findings clearly and submit timely examination reports and any required addendums
• Prepare objective medical opinions and assist with diagnostic interpretation as needed
• Coordinate with VES administrative staff for scheduling and credentialing tasks
• Maintain clinical boundaries — these are non-treatment, one-time exams

Qualifications

• Active Nurse Practitioner license (NP) — NY licensure preferred or ability to obtain NY authorization
• Clinical background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery or general medicine
• Experience with Compensation & Pension exams or similar medico-legal/assessment work is strongly preferred
• Comfort and competence with interview-based exams and hands-on physical assessments (ROM, muscle strength)
• Ability to work in a provider-owned office (if choosing that option) or travel within a 50-mile radius to VES facilities
• Willingness to complete required VES training and onboarding prior to patient assignments
• Reliable communication skills and ability to complete timely documentation

Education

• Nurse Practitioner degree/credential (MSN or DNP) or equivalent NP certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical assessment skills for primary care and musculoskeletal exams
• Familiarity with Compensation & Pension processes and documentation expectations
• Proficiency in performing range of motion and muscle strength testing
• Clear, concise medical record documentation and report-writing ability
• Ability to produce medical opinions and handle addendums professionally
• Comfort working independently in office settings and collaborating with remote administrative teams
• Good patient interviewing and interpersonal skills, especially with Veteran populations
