Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality stepdown/PCU nursing care to adult and geriatric patients
• Float between PCU/stepdown and telemetry units as needed to meet patient care demands
• Interpret cardiac telemetry and manage dysrhythmias, supporting rapid response and code teams
• Start and maintain IVs, manage peripheral and central lines, and assist with arterial line care
• Administer and monitor drips and follow heparin and insulin protocols per facility guidelines
• Provide respiratory support including HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube monitoring, and tracheostomy care
• Document thoroughly in Epic to ensure accurate, timely charting and continuity of care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, RT, Pharmacy, Rapid Response, etc.) to optimize patient outcomes

Qualifications

• 2 years of clinical experience required (1 year of solid step-down/PCU experience may be acceptable)
• BLS and ACLS required
• IV start and telemetry experience required
• Epic experience required
• NIHSS, phlebotomy, and procedural sedation monitoring preferred
• Charge experience preferred
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry and cardiac monitoring
• PCU/stepdown care and estimated patient ratios of 1:3-4
• IV therapy, IV starts, PICC and central line care/management
• Phlebotomy and blood product administration
• Arterial line management and ABG interpretation
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP/CPAP, chest tube management, tracheostomy care
• Dysrhythmia interpretation and participation on rapid response/code teams
• Use of Epic for documentation and electronic charting
• Heparin and insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis and renal failure management
• Feeding tube care and pre/post neurosurgery patient management
• Infection control practices, isolation precautions and PPE, wound care/Wound Vac
