Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients, ensuring safe recovery following procedures
• Monitor and assess vital signs, airway status, and pain levels — intervene promptly when needed
• Administer medications and treatments per orders and document care accurately in the patient record
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with surgical teams, families, and interdisciplinary staff
• Support a child-friendly environment and use developmentally appropriate techniques to reduce anxiety
• Participate in unit orientation and help onboard new colleagues when called upon
• Maintain strict adherence to infection control, safety, and medication administration policies

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Massachusetts (or compact RN license where applicable)
• Experience or training in PACU and/or pediatric nursing preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; PALS highly preferred
• Strong assessment skills, especially in post-anesthesia and pediatric populations
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with families and clinical teams
• Ability to pass standard background checks and required facility onboarding

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Active RN license in Massachusetts

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) protocols and recovery assessment
• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
• Medication administration and IV management in children
• Familiarity with EHR documentation and clinical charting
• Strong situational awareness, prioritization, and crisis management
• Teamwork mentality and patient-family centered care approach
