Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered recovery care in the PACU following anesthesia
• Monitor and assess patients’ vital signs, pain levels, and conscious status continuously
• Administer medications and IV therapies safely and per protocol
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgeons, and multidisciplinary team to ensure smooth handoffs
• Educate patients and families about post-anesthesia expectations and discharge instructions
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress accurately in the medical record
• Recognize and respond promptly to patient changes and emergencies

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Louisiana or compact RN license eligible for LA practice
• Previous PACU or post-anesthesia experience preferred; new grads with strong perioperative background considered
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred or obtainable
• Strong clinical assessment skills, IV and medication administration competency
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Ongoing professional development and specialty certifications encouraged

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia assessment and PACU protocols
• Pain management and multimodal analgesia strategies
• Airway management basics and rapid response recognition
• IV therapy, medication administration, and titration
• Perioperative documentation and familiarity with common EMR systems
• Patient/family education and discharge planning
