Shift Type: Monday-Friday (day shifts; times vary based on clinic/hospital schedule) with on-call responsibilities including 1-2 weekday nights and weekend coverage. Night call: 5:00 PM - 7:00 AM (night coverage). Rotating/varied schedule including call duties.

Candidate Pay Rate: $126 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive adult inpatient and perioperative care for cardiothoracic patients
• Assist in open thoracic and cardiovascular surgical procedures, including CABG (on pump) and valve repairs/replacements
• Manage acute and ICU-level patients, including ventilator and hemodynamic support as needed
• Cover on-call pager duties, respond to postoperative issues and urgent consults during assigned call shifts
• Coordinate admissions, discharges, and daily patient management to ensure smooth transitions of care
• Document thoroughly in Epic EMR and collaborate with surgeons, nursing, and ancillary staff for optimal patient outcomes
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to treatment planning and family communication

Qualifications

• Physician Assistant (PA) credential with current/state licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure in Washington
• Demonstrated experience in cardiothoracic surgery settings — both OR assistance and inpatient/ICU management
• Comfortable with on-call responsibilities and providing timely clinical decision-making during nights/weekends
• Proficiency with Epic EMR or equivalent electronic medical records systems
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with surgical teams, nursing, and patients' families
• Ability to perform required procedures listed (e.g., assist in open CV/thoracic surgery, CABG on pump, valve procedures)

Education

• Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program (PA-C) — master's level training typical

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of cardiothoracic surgical procedures and perioperative care
• Critical care and ventilator management skills applicable to ICU patients
• Skilled in acute volume and blood pressure management for postoperative patients
• Familiarity with central line insertion and other inpatient procedural skills
• Effective use of Epic EMR for documentation, order entry, and care coordination
• Ability to triage, prioritize, and act decisively during on-call situations
