Hospice Chaplain - Outpatient
Location: Albany, OR

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Day shift (no weekends)
Hours per Week: 24
Candidate Pay Rate: $55 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate pastoral and spiritual care to hospice patients in home and residential settings, tailoring support to each person’s beliefs and needs
- Offer bereavement support and counseling to family members and caregivers, helping them navigate grief and transition
- Conduct spiritual assessments and provide short-term counseling and crisis intervention as needed
- Collaborate closely with nurses, social workers, volunteers and the interdisciplinary hospice team to ensure whole-person care
- Travel to patient residences, assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities and adult foster homes within the service area
- Document visits and interventions clearly and timely in the patient record, maintaining confidentiality and professional standards
- Participate in team meetings to coordinate care plans and contribute spiritual perspectives to patient-centered goals
Qualifications
- Ordained, commissioned, licensed or endorsed by a recognized pastoral/spiritual community (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR bachelor’s in an unrelated field plus 2 years pastoral/spiritual or medical experience OR associate’s in a related field plus 2 years chaplain experience (per job requirements)
- Experience or training in pastoral/spiritual care such as Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), Stephen's Ministry, coursework toward ordination, or equivalent
- Valid driver's license, required auto liability/property damage insurance and use of personal automobile for work
- Demonstrated experience in bereavement support and counseling in clinical or pastoral settings
- Ability to travel to multiple points of care within the service area; reliable vehicle and willingness to visit patients in home settings
- Master’s degree in a related field preferred
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a related field OR
- Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field + 2 years pastoral/spiritual or medical experience OR
- Associate's degree in a related field + 2 years experience as a chaplain
- Master's degree preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong pastoral/spiritual care and chaplaincy skills tailored to hospice populations
- Compassionate bereavement counseling and family support techniques
- Comfort working in home-based and community care environments
- Clear, sensitive communication across diverse faiths and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary hospice team
- Good documentation practices and ability to manage case notes
