Roles & Responsibilities

Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with disorders of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing
Provide professional consultations for complex inpatient acute care cases to support safe discharge planning
Perform swallowing evaluations including FEES and collaborate on treatment plans
Work closely with interdisciplinary teams — physicians, nurses, social workers, case managers — to coordinate patient-centered care
Operate and maintain specialty equipment safely such as endoscopes, VitalStim, and electrolarynx
Document care thoroughly and contribute to quality and safety initiatives in a Level I trauma center environment

Qualifications

Current Hawaii State license as a Speech Language Pathologist (required)
Current ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) required
Current certification in CPR at BLS/HCP level required
Completion of a FEES course required; if not completed upon hire, must be completed within six months
Minimum of one (1) year acute care SLP experience preferred
Prior FEES clinical experience and MBSImP preferred

Education

Knowledge & Skills

Swallowing evaluation and adult dysphagia management
Speech and language assessment and cognitive assessment skills
Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) competence or willingness to complete training
Experience with MBSImP, augmentative communication, VitalStim, and electrolarynx
Comfort operating endoscopic equipment and other clinical devices used in acute care
Strong interdisciplinary collaboration and clear clinical documentation
