Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of the internal risk management program to protect patients and the organization
• Direct and facilitate patient safety initiatives, including Patient Safety Rounds and system-level process improvements
• Plan and execute Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEA) to identify and reduce clinical risks
• Investigate, evaluate, and report adverse incidents in accordance with state and federal regulations and organizational policy
• Coordinate disclosure and follow-up with patients, families, and clinical teams after adverse events to ensure transparent communication and appropriate remediation
• Perform chart audits and clinical reviews to support accreditation, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance
• Provide education, mentoring, and competency development for staff and clinicians on safety, risk reduction, and regulatory expectations
• Collaborate closely with Medical Directors, the CMO, and corporate counsel on peer review, quality of care, and risk matters
• Monitor industry and clinical risk trends and recommend proactive system changes to improve patient safety
• Cross-cover other Quality Management team roles as needed to support department objectives

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted, active Registered Nursing license in Alaska (agency staff must have an active AK license; direct hire must have applied before start date)
• CPHRM certification required within two (2) years if not already held
• Clinical competency demonstration required within 3 months and recertification every 3 years
• Minimum 3 years experience monitoring risk management, patient safety, quality and regulatory requirements, and leading process change
• Proven leadership experience facilitating cross-functional teams and collaborating effectively with physicians and senior leaders
• Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to educate staff and lead safety-focused discussions

Education

• Active Registered Nursing license in Alaska
• CPHRM certification (within 2 years if not already certified)
• Clinical competency validation within 3 months of hire

Knowledge & Skills

• Risk management program development and oversight
• Patient safety principles and event disclosure processes
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
• Regulatory knowledge: DNV, TJC, CMS, CARF and applicable AK statutes
• Adverse event investigation, reporting, and chart audit techniques
• Quality improvement methodologies and clinical review processes
• Data support and basic analysis to drive improvement initiatives
• Education, training design, and competency assessment
• Collaborative work with Medical Directors, CMO, and corporate counsel
• Awareness of industry and clinical risk trends
