Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead the ER as the charge nurse—coordinate patient flow, delegate assignments, and support staff in a critical access setting
• Perform rapid assessment and triage of patients across the lifespan, managing a wide variety of diagnoses from lacerations to STEMI and stroke
• Manage emergency interventions and common drips (Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Lasix, Amiodarone) safely and effectively
• Operate and troubleshoot respiratory and monitoring equipment (ventilator/CPAP/BiPAP, Mindray telemetry) and read EKG strips as needed
• Provide clear, timely documentation using MEDITECH and communicate with on-call providers and radiology for diagnostics
• Supervise patient care during high-acuity events and ensure patient safety in a 20-bed ER with a trauma bay
• Mentor and support other ER staff to maintain calm, efficient care during busy or stressful shifts

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license (eligible to submit and willing to wait for license if needed)
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), TNCC (required)
• Must have charge nurse experience AND CAH ER experience; strong ER background in a critical access environment is mandatory
• Minimum 1 year of ER experience (per job details)
• Comfort managing telemetry/EKG interpretation and common drips; ventilator/CPAP/BiPAP familiarity highly preferred
• Meditech charting experience is preferred
• Must not live within a 50-mile radius of the facility and not have worked permanently at any CSH facility within the past 12 months

Education

• Active RN license in an appropriate U.S. state
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Triage and emergency assessment skills with TNCC competence
• Telemetry/EKG interpretation and familiarity with Mindray monitors
• IV drip management and safe titration of cardiac and critical care medications
• Ability to manage respiratory equipment and troubleshoot vents, CPAP, BiPAP
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills as a charge nurse
• Calm under pressure with the flexibility to wear many hats in a small, critical access hospital
• Proficient documentation skills in MEDITECH
