Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, compassionate CVICU nursing care for critically ill cardiac patients, using advanced assessment and intervention skills
• Manage mechanical ventilation, tracheostomy care, and complex IV medication titration including pressors, sedation, and paralytics
• Interpret telemetry and hemodynamic data, set up and interpret PA catheters to guide timely clinical decisions
• Perform and assist with critical procedures common to the unit (cardioversion, central lines, chest tubes, pericardiocentesis, thoracentesis)
• Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized plans of care
• Document care accurately in Cerner and communicate changes clearly during handoffs and to families

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure appropriate for practice in North Carolina
• 2+ years of recent critical care/CVICU (ICU) experience (Experience: 2+)
• Hands-on experience with ventilator management, tracheostomy care, telemetry interpretation, and hemodynamic monitoring
• Comfortable titrating vesicant medications and managing pressors, sedation, and paralytics (Must have)
• Familiarity with PA catheter setup and interpretation and transvenous pacing/TEE is a plus
• CCRN recommended but not required; advanced device experience (IABP, Impella, CRRT) appreciated
• Familiarity with Cerner documentation system preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing fundamentals and cardiac ICU best practices
• Mechanical ventilation and tracheostomy management
• Telemetry interpretation and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
• PA catheter setup and data interpretation
• IV medication titration, including pressors and vesicant management
• Care for patients with IABP, Impella, CRRT (preferred/desired)
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic documentation
• Ability to function independently in an RN-only unit environment
