Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert nursing care to patients on the neuro stepdown unit, closely monitoring neurological status and responding to changes
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments while maintaining patient safety and comfort
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and the care team to develop and adjust individualized care plans
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record
• Act quickly and calmly in emergency situations, stabilizing patients and escalating care as needed

Qualifications

• Current and unencumbered RN license in Louisiana or a compact state
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association required; ACLS preferred
• Previous experience in neuro, stepdown, or progressive care nursing is a plus
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
• Ability to work flexible per diem shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of neurological assessments and stroke and neuro protocols
• Comfortable with telemetry and cardiac monitoring
• Skilled in IV insertion, medication administration, and wound care
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems
• Excellent teamwork, adaptability, and patient-centered communication
