Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based care to new mothers and their babies
• Monitor maternal and newborn vital signs and report changes promptly
• Educate families on newborn care, feeding, and postpartum recovery
• Support breastfeeding initiation and troubleshoot challenges
• Document assessments and interventions accurately
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure safe discharge

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Virginia or compact state
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification preferred
• Previous mother/baby or postpartum nursing experience preferred
• Strong assessment and critical-thinking skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of postpartum and newborn care best practices
• Skilled in patient and family education
• Comfortable using electronic health records (EHR)
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, flexible environment
