Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality post-operative cardiac critical care in a 19-bed CVICU/CVRU using a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio depending on acuity
• Monitor and manage hemodynamics, ventilators, and advanced cardiac devices to keep patients stable
• Care for patients supported by ECMO, Impella, IABP and LVAD with team-based support
• Perform procedures and post-op tasks such as chest tube care, pacer wire removal, intubation/extubation and frequent patient ambulation
• Document patient care accurately in Cerner EMR and utilize GE monitoring systems
• Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, bedside teams and specialty resource nurses to ensure safe transitions and optimal recovery
• Participate in unit orientation, follow unit policies, and ensure safe practice by seeking guidance when needed

Qualifications

• Current RN (Registered Nurse) licensure
• ACLS required
• BLS required
• Minimum 2 years CVICU or CVRU experience (2+ years experience noted)
• Critical care training or equivalent experience
• High-energy, team-oriented attitude with a passion for surgical heart care
• Preferred: Critical Care certification or Cardiac Surgery/Recovery Room certification
• Preferred: Experience with ECMO, Impella, IABP, LVAD, Cerner EMR and GE monitors

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong cardiac critical care knowledge including post-op heart surgery recovery
• Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
• Ventilator management and intubation/extubation care
• Familiarity with ECMO, Impella, IABP and LVAD management (or willingness to develop these skills)
• Proficient documentation in Cerner EMR and use of GE monitoring systems
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with good communication skills
