Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist the orthodontist during patient exams and procedures, ensuring a smooth and comfortable experience
- Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments to maintain a safe, clean environment
- Take and process dental X-rays, impressions, and digital scans with precision
- Educate patients on orthodontic care, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene best practices
- Maintain accurate patient records and update treatment plans in the dental software
- Support a welcoming atmosphere that puts patients of all ages at ease
Qualifications
- Current Dental Assistant certification or licensure in Maryland (as required by state)
- CPR/BLS certification is strongly preferred
- Previous experience in orthodontic or dental assisting is a plus
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly, caring approach to patient care
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a busy orthodontic practice
- Comfortable working with digital dental technology and X-ray equipment
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of orthodontic terminology, procedures, and dental anatomy
- Proficiency with dental software, digital radiography, and intraoral scanners
- Strong understanding of sterilization and infection control protocols
- Team collaboration skills with the ability to take direction from the lead orthodontist
- Attention to detail and a proactive mindset
