Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare pediatric patients for surgery by conducting pre-operative assessments and reviewing medical histories
• Start IVs, administer medications, and monitor vital signs in the pre-operative setting
• Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure a smooth and safe transition to the operating room
• Provide compassionate care and emotional support to children and their families before surgery
• Verify surgical consent forms and ensure all pre-operative protocols are followed
• Document patient information accurately in the electronic health record

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
• Current BLS certification required
• PALS certification preferred
• Previous experience in pre-operative, perioperative, or pediatric nursing is a plus
• Strong communication skills and a caring, patient-centered approach

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pre-operative nursing procedures and protocols
• Skill in starting IVs and administering medications to pediatric patients
• Ability to comfort and reassure anxious children and families
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and documentation standards
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
