Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, high-quality care to a diverse general medicine and internal medicine patient population
• Perform IV starts, blood draws and phlebotomy as the primary nurse handling these skills
• Titrate drips such as heparin and lasix while closely monitoring your patients
• Interpret EKG strips and stay telemetry competent to support floating needs across the hospital
• Work alongside charge nurses and nurse aids to keep the unit flowing smoothly at a 1:5 patient ratio
• Float confidently to other MedSurg and Telemetry acuity floors, rotating with core staff
• Chart accurately in Epic and keep your documentation sharp and timely
• Educate patients and families, guiding them through their care journey with warmth and clarity

Qualifications

• Active RN license with the ability to submit your license right away
• Minimum of 3 years of RN experience, ideally with strong general medicine and internal medicine background
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• NIHSS certification required for floating purposes
• Must pass a telemetry competency and EKG exam
• Proficient with IV starts and blood draws, since RNs handle the majority of phlebotomy here
• Charge nurse experience is preferred but definitely not required
• Epic charting experience preferred

Education

• Common diagnoses/Types of patients "This floor gets a little of everything in the general medicine/internal medicine population. Generally a lower acuity population- manager compares it to a regular Med Surg unit in a community hospital.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical assessment skills in MedSurg, Telemetry and general medicine
• Confidence with cardiac drip titration and EKG interpretation
• Telemetry competency and strip reading, even on a unit without monitors
• Excellent communication and teamwork with charge nurses, techs and respiratory therapy
• Adaptability and a positive attitude toward floating between units
• Detail-oriented charting skills in Epic
• A caring, patient-first mindset with a lower acuity population that still needs you at your best
