Roles & Responsibilities

Deliver impactful education and case management to patients with diabetes, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes
Maintain vital diabetes registries to track and support patient care
Ensure patients receive essential annual exams, lab tests, immunizations, and education per IHS standards
Coordinate primary and secondary prevention goals alongside the SEARHC Diabetes team
Lead the annual IHS Diabetes Audit with precision and care
Utilize data and tools to deliver top-tier quality care
Facilitate training on IHS Standards of Care for providers, dietitians, nurses, and staff
Support the SEARHC Seven Standards of Excellence while assisting staff, visitors, and patients with warmth

Qualifications

Valid current RN license in Alaska
Certified Diabetes Educator or eligible to certify within 2 years
Clinical Competency assessment within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
3 years general nursing or dietetic experience preferred
1 year in diabetic care and management preferred

Education

Registered Nurse license from Alaska State Board of Nursing
Certified Diabetes Educator from National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators

Knowledge & Skills

Diabetes case management practices and procedures
Health promotion and patient education techniques
Customs of Alaska Native groups and their impact on care
Performing diabetic care procedures with professional expertise
Tact and sensitivity in high-stress situations
Strong oral and written communication
Computer proficiency
Teaching and organization skills
