Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to residents including assistance with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting and feeding)
- Monitor residents’ condition and report changes promptly to nursing staff
- Take and record vital signs accurately and consistently
- Maintain clear, timely documentation in resident charts and care plans
- Assist with safe transfers, mobility support, and fall-prevention measures
- Adhere to infection control protocols and facility safety standards
- Support a warm, resident-centered environment that preserves dignity and independence
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and support staff to deliver coordinated care
Qualifications
- Current CNA certification/license valid in Connecticut (required)
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Demonstrated compassion and strong interpersonal skills when working with older adults
- Ability to pass background checks and required health screenings (TB, immunizations) per facility policy
- Previous long-term care or skilled nursing experience is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or GED (preferred)
- State-approved CNA training program completion and active CNA certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of basic patient care and ADLs
- Comfortable taking and documenting vital signs and observations
- Familiarity with safe resident handling and transfer techniques
- Good communication skills with residents, families, and the care team
- Attention to detail and reliable time-management skills
- Basic computer/EMR familiarity is helpful
