Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and document residents' swallowing, cognitive-communication, and speech-language abilities using evidence-based methods
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that reduce aspiration risk and improve communication
- Lead and guide delivery of speech-language pathology and audiology services in the facility to ensure high-quality care
- Ensure all care and documentation meet local, state and federal long-term care regulations and facility policies
- Collaborate with nursing, therapy colleagues, families and caregivers to maximize resident outcomes
- Provide education and training for staff and family members on strategies to support communication and safe swallowing
- Track progress, adjust plans as needed, and clearly document outcomes and recommendations
Qualifications
- Valid, unrestricted Missouri state license in Speech-Language Pathology (required)
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) (required)
- Minimum 1 year of SLP experience (required)
- Experience in Long-Term Care or Skilled Nursing Facility settings (required)
- Valid driver’s license for travel between sites as needed
- Ability to meet the educational requirements for state licensure
Education
- Meets the educational requirements for state licensure in Speech-Language Pathology (as required by Missouri)
Knowledge & Skills
- Assessment and documentation best practices for SLP
- Treatment plan development focused on swallowing, cognition, and communication
- Swallowing therapy for dysphagia and aspiration risk reduction
- Cognitive-communication therapy strategies for neurogenic communication disorders
- Strong knowledge of skilled nursing home regulations and long-term care guidelines
- Experience providing services in SNF and LTC environments
- Basic audiology services and collaborative care approaches
