Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, family-centered nursing care for critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU
- Perform thorough assessments and recognize/respond to clinical changes quickly
- Administer medications and manage complex therapies safely and accurately
- Perform IV starts and blood draws with competence and compassion
- Support and assist with TPT placement and other unit procedures as needed
- Collaborate closely with intensivists, respiratory therapists, desk techs and the multidisciplinary team
- Document patient care and interventions thoroughly in Meditech EMR
- Participate in unit learning and contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Active RN license (Kansas license or multi-state compact where applicable) required
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric critical care / PICU experience preferred
- Current BLS required; PALS and other pediatric certifications preferred (confirm facility requirements)
- Comfortable working nights and in a Level II trauma pediatric environment
- Strong assessment skills and proven ability to work well under pressure
- Experience with IV starts, blood draws, and familiarity with TPT placements is a plus
- CRRT experience and APHON membership/certification are desirable
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency with Meditech EMR or similar electronic charting systems
- Solid pediatric critical care assessment and monitoring skills
- Skillful IV starts, blood draws, and vascular access support
- Familiarity with CRRT basics and PICU equipment
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and attention to detail
- Ability to function effectively in a teaching hospital environment
