Education

• Common diagnosis / Types of patients all types, respiratory, obs pending stress test, COPD, CIWA, chest pain,
• Experience or 'Must have' skills telemetry/ rhythm interpretation
• Are RN's required to titrate drips? yes cardizem, amiodarone
• Common titratable &/or set rate drips yes cardizem, amiodarone
• Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? yes, charge can be out of staffing or
• on days takes 1-3 patients
• on nights take 1-5 patients
• Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit? Ratios? Duties? yes, 1:17, help feed, take blood glucose levels, help bath and toilet patients, help with labs
• RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, Bi Pap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot? call respiratory
• Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RN's required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? tele monitor is virtual in arizona. yes they must read their own rhythm and confirm what the CMU placed in the chart. GE monitors
• Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) we allow those to make a request, and attempt to accomodate request- block scheduling for nights requesting 3 in a row is accepted. We do not accomodate on for 6 and off a week.
• Weekend Requirements 5-6 weekend shifts per 6 weeks
• Holiday Requirements yes- A,B, C team
• Is there Call or a Standby requirement? we typically do not put travelers oncall
• Floating Requirements yes- float to all 3 campuses
• Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs Provided? no- navy blue scrubs for nurses
• How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation? 3- one on each campus
